Good Morning Job Search
Category: Job Seeker Tools
Effort only fully releases its reward after a person refuses to quit." - Napoleon Hill. It's 10:30pm and I'm on my way home from work. No, I don't work the night shift. By the time I get home (11:30pm or so), there will be 5 hours (if I'm lucky) before I have to get up for work again. All of this glory and its all mine. I can complain (and this is not a complaint) or I can look for another job.
But let's face it, all jobs have their ups and downs and any other job is likely to have some aspect that is not ideal. You need to know what's important to you in your career (and your job). Does your job have more negatives than positives? Maybe it's time for you to start your job search.
Where to get started:
- Fast Track Your Job Search – Ten Steps to Find a Job Fast – About.com‘s Alison Doyle provides this article which provides the basics for fast tracking our job search – job search plan, resume, cover letters, websites and more. There are embedded links throughout the article for each of the main categories as well helpful links at the bottom of the page.
- Job Search Strategies – A great list of resources, this site leads with a list of quick guides (each of which leads to a detailed page) like “ask the employer”, “interview effectively” and more. Below this are links for FAQs such as – “How do I use Site Search?”, “How do I find jobs to apply for on the internet?” and so much more. In addition to this there are numerous links to additional resources on the left hand side of the screen.
Where to look:
- Online Recruiter’s Directory – To start, click the “Jobseeker” tab at the top of the page. Now you should see a search page where you can select your category (job type), Job type (retained, contingency, etc.) and country / state. Now click “search recruiters” and you will have your list (the good news). The bad news is that once you have your list you will need to find out their website on your own (as far as I could tell).
- Recruiter/Headhunter Resources, Directories & Associations – This is a list of lists provided by Quintcareers.com. Halfway down the page you will find a list of recruiter directories. Work your way through the list and start to build your recruiter network.
- Job-Hunt – Job-Hunt is a free online search site which offers advice, job search news, and a comprehensive (and quite amazing) list of job search sites (categorized by location, networking, industry/profession, etc.). You could easily spend a few days leveraging the links from this site alone (and maybe you should). Unlike other search sites, it does not appear as if jobs are posted directly to Job-Hunt. Rather, it provides links to other sites which have posted jobs.
Good luck in your search.
