College Grad Job Search - Home for the Holidays - Vol 3

Grandma got run over by a reindeer walking home from our house Christmas Eve. You can say there's no such thing as Santa, but as for me and Grandpa, we believe.

The turkey leftovers are almost gone and you can hear those jingle bells in the background. Graduation is but a memory (was it really May?) and it's beginning to feel a lot like no job. BUT, New Years is just around the corner and you can start the New Year with your resolution to find a job. Maybe it's not as bad for you. Perhaps you have a job, but not the job you want. Whatever your story, time to get to work.

 
• CampusCareerCenter.com – The site leads with who’s hiring (click on job seekers), with several employers listed on the main page. There is a wealth of resource links on the first page as well on the right hand side of the page. There is a search box in the top right hand side of the page. Click the “Post Resume” tab at the top to register, post your resume and get started. Looks like you must register to use the job search.

 
• CollegeJobBoard.com -The main page of this site lists featured employers, with job categories listed down the right hand side of the page. There are related article links as well as a resource center (which is a little light on content). The job seeker home link is restricted to registered users only. There are additional tabs at the top of the page for logins, new job seeker and more.

 
• Groovejob.com – This is a pretty neat site. The site focuses on part time jobs (better than no time jobs), Teen Jobs, Student Jobs and Summer Jobs. The site lists featured employers in the main section of the screen. There are a number of resources as well – Resumes, Career Assessment, Interview tips, Student Resources and more. Most of the jobs appear to be part time, but I did not register on the site to see the full functionality.

 
• GoliathJobs – The number one job site on the web according to their site. You can register, sign-in or go right to job search. Registering will give you access to a message center in addition to the typical resume posting and job search. There is a blog link at the bottom of the page which provides interesting articles. The search engine is fairly basic, and conducting a simple search (Finance in NY) returns some jobs that are old and too senior for recent grads, although there are jobs that are recent and entry level as well. It’s not clear if registration gives access to advanced search.

 
• SeekingSuccess – SeekingSuccess is a resource website for recent Grads. There are tabs at the top for a Blog, Choosing your Career, Getting the Job, Succeeding at Work and Resume Writing.  The Blog provides career advice while each of the other tabs provides articles related to the context of the tab. The left-hand side of the page has links to additional resources, including a Books for Career Success and Career Links. There are related articles center page and resources on the right hand side of the page.
