Have you ever thought about working for yourself?  I have not, but you never know what opportunities exist if you're a job seeker with a specific skill set.  Freelancers are self-employed individuals who offer their services to certain clients without being obligated long-term to an employer.  However, because you are depending on yourself for work, you should know what goes into this process.  Here is some advice:

Know your field- Focus on your area(s) of expertise, and weigh the pros and cons of this area of work.  Remember, your clients will expect you to know what you are doing.

Plan and be proactive to generate your own work and income- Look for at least one client that can provide you with a steady income.  Create an emergency fund for when life happens, get affordable insurance policies you need, and save for retirement.

Market yourself- To attract clientele, you must get your name and brand known to people.  Keep some business cards with you, and advertise through media such as radio, newspaper, website, etc.

Network on and offline- Whether you're meeting new people at business events or using social media, establishing relationships can not only inform others about what you do, but allow you to potentially gain new clients.

If you are having a tough time finding a job, but believe your skill set is in demand, then freelancing may work for you.  As long as you have done your homework, then there could be an opportunity to make a good living for yourself.
