Steps On How To Plan A Career - Saturday, April 20, 2013 6:33 PM ( #1 )
Several students go to school and graduate without setting clear goals to achieve in life; this throws them into wild confusion as they get very tough challenges deciding on which way to go. There are professionals, tutorials and books which are written by experienced researchers and professors who have adequate knowledge in this field. It is important to know how to plan a career as this is the onset of a well organized and successful life.
There are several steps that one most keenly follow before going through a decision making process of what to do and what not to do in their lives. One must first develop a statement of their personal mission in life and what they have a conviction on. One can include more than an option so that they can be eliminated and evaluated following the given steps.
This statement must be updated as years go by as talents, ideas and opportunities vary and more clarity is added making it very important to develop the statement early in life to give space for evaluation. This is a worthwhile move as it is the stepping stone to self evaluation. After developing the statement, one must then make an inventory of skills that must be built on with the passage of time.
There are seminars and courses that one can take and also join professional associations in order to have a clear revelation about the qualities and attributes that one may have not known of. Whatever the reason that makes one to cling on a given skill; it should be able to boost the feel that one has towards them and also give them the will to keep working. It should also provide time to be with family and friends.
One should never let themselves to make rush decisions out of desperation as this can lead to frustration in whatever job one would be doing. The best choices should be based on knowledge of prevailing opportunities and the best chances for prosperity. Resources that may lead to one making an informed decision are always available but may be scattered and must be gathered.
Students can take advantage of resources such as library books, mentors, academic placement officer, teaching and learning center, office for community outreach among others to get information. The mentors are capable of helping one get a clear picture of how to shape their lives. The academic facilities have very relevant information on modern trends in the job market and other considerable factors.
Another important way of getting information is actively involving ones network by developing relationships with mates from varied backgrounds who are bound to give an advanced elaboration. People such as faculty members, alumni, other students and counselors are a viable source of aid. Sharing ideas with peers can give one a better understanding of their capabilities, values and interests.
After getting all the relevant information on self evaluation, one must then consider the viability of the associated jobs and the windows of prosperity. One must get a good feeling of self worth as this would be a boost to ones confidence. It is vital to know how to plan a career as one can throw away their talents and passion to pursue other jobs due to lack of planning.
